Disclaimer: CLV is already finished, but this demo is still in development. More stories to come!

Introduction

You like Eeveelutions? Here you'll find the daily going-ons of Vaporeon's team in the NWI guild. Watch as Glaceon gets stuck in a freezer, Flareon proposes to his true love, and Sylveon commits crimes.

Also, this is a tech demo for the CLV (Character Line View) module. CLV is an extension of YarnSpinner that not only simplifies game dialogue, but also allows for complex rpg-style text animations, customization for each character, and easily interspersing cutscenes. If what you see in this game interests you, then you're in luck. CLV is completely FREE! Just download from below, slap the folder into your Unity project, and you're good to go. Check out the "Introduction" story above, and the linked documentation for more info.

Character Line View Features

  • In-text attributes allow for rpg-style animations while displaying dialogue lines such as pausing, changing the cps, changing the speed of the voice, and more. Rich text tags are also supported.
  • Displays are customizable per character. Each character has their own set of emotions/icons, a background, and voice.
  • The “animate” command simplifies the process of interspersing cutscenes with dialogue, by allowing timeline assets to be directly called from the dialogue scripts.
  • More info available in the documentation linked below.

Install instructions

To use CLV, open up the ZIP, then drag and drop the "Character Line View" folder into your Unity game. Afterward, check out the documentation I wrote to learn how to use it (it's linked on the itch.io page).

As always, if there's any bugs, let me know! Otherwise, if you have any ideas for cool features, leave a comment and I can include them in the next update.

Hi everyone.

How are you doing

(+1)

I feel constantly terrorized by the reality that the characters I create are not real and that I am just a collection of atoms attempting to create meaning out of fictional concepts rather than form real connections with those around me

But other than that I’m fine, thanks!

Well, I haven't been here for a long time.

Are you planning to make Eeveelution games?

Of course, haven't stopped making them! The current one is still a while away though, so I'll be posting again once it's done.

Do you understand Russian?

No lol. I speak Japanese tho

I speak Russian, but I write in English.

I can learn how to make voices in the dialogue?

From your previous comment, I'll assume you're using Ren'Py? If so, you'll want to look into the example code for character callbacks: https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/character_callbacks.html

How to make characters use several different dialog boxes in Ren'Py?

I'm not a Ren'Py expert, so I'd recommend going on LemmaSoft for these questions. If you're looking at dialogue boxes per character, this thread may help: https://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?t=42205#p441365

That being said, what are you planning to make?

I wanted to create a game based on Eeveelutions.

Nice! I'm hoping to influence others to try out making Eeveelution games, so it's great to see another developer.

Hello

Heya! :3

Can I use this file in Ren'Py Engine?

Sadly, the code for Character Line View is created for Unity. If you want to use the images though, be my guest!
Open the zip file, and go to the "Assets" folder. You'll find the dialogue boxes for all the characters, as well as their voices. The character icons are currently unavailable though.

What are you doing at the moment?

Drawing some cursed images for the next update lol.

Uhhh... If you wanna chat, messaging me on Twitter may be better than this comment chain: https://twitter.com/ArcherZenmi
